چکیده

We compute the effective potential for scalar fields in asymptotically safe quantum gravity. A scaling and other functions generalize fixed point values of renormalizable couplings. The takes a non-polynomial form, approaching typically constant large fields. Spontaneous symmetry breaking may be induced by non-vanishing gauge strengthen arguments prediction ratio between masses top quark Higgs boson. inflation standard model is unlikely to compatible with asymptotic safety. Scaling solutions vanishing relevant parameters can sufficient realistic description particle physics cosmology, leading an “cosmological constant” or dynamical dark energy.

Chiral fermions in asymptotically safe quantum gravity

We study the consistency of dynamical fermionic matter with the asymptotic safety scenario of quantum gravity using the functional renormalisation group. Since this scenario suggests strongly coupled quantum gravity in the UV, one expects gravity-induced fermion self-interactions at energies of the Planck scale. These could lead to chiral symmetry breaking at very high energies and thus to larg...

Four-derivative interactions in asymptotically safe gravity

We summarize recent progress in understanding the role of higher-derivative terms in the asymptotic safety scenario of gravity. Extending previous computations based on the functional renormalization group approach by including a Weyl-squared term in the ansatz for the effective action, further evidence for the existence of a non-Gaussian fixed point is found. The fixed point also persists upon...

A Minimal Length from the Cutoff Modes in Asymptotically Safe Quantum Gravity

Within asymptotically safe Quantum Einstein Gravity (QEG), the quantum 4-sphere is discussed as a specific example of a fractal spacetime manifold. The relation between the infrared cutoff built into the effective average action and the corresponding coarse graining scale is investigated. Analyzing the properties of the pertinent cutoff modes, the possibility that QEG generates a minimal length...

Loop Quantum Gravity and Asymptotically Flat Spaces

After motivating why the study of asymptotically flat spaces is important in loop quantum gravity, we review the extension of the standard framework of this theory to the asymptotically flat sector detailed in [1]. In particular, we provide a general procedure for constructing new Hilbert spaces for loop quantum gravity on non-compact spatial manifolds. States in these Hilbert spaces can be int...

Bare Action and Regularized Functional Integral of Asymptotically Safe Quantum Gravity

Investigations of Quantum Einstein Gravity (QEG) based upon the effective average action employ a flow equation which does not contain any ultraviolet (UV) regulator. Its renormalization group trajectories emanating from a non-Gaussian fixed point define asymptotically safe quantum field theories. A priori these theories are, somewhat unusually, given in terms of their effective rather than bar...
